Not a bad story. The seeds of your later work show here and there, especially in your use of the language. A nice (albiet frustrating) ending. (7/10)

I understand that this is one of Subtle's early works and it shows (later stuff is way better). I didn't find it terribly exciting and not an awful lot happens. OK, it is a very short and well written piece but the "you and I" style of writing almost necessarily denies the reader any of the characterization elements of the story ("I" am not going to tell "you" much about me because most times "we" already have a relationship, except in a story about strangers meeting for the first time). This leaves the reader out in the cold. I just couldn't get into this. (5/10)

After reading the first three stories, I found this one a bit of a letdown (sorry). Besides the spelling error "slighly" in paragraph 18 (the one that starts with "I nod weakly and you remove...") the entire text repeated twice in print. Getting to the story itself, its pretty good. My favorite line happens to be "...my hands still up in the air, fighting internally between pleasure and pain, responsibility and release". How true are these thoughts in the pysche of sub's? My experience as a Master...reveals that its all the time...and just as frequently as the line in the first paragraph, "I hate these decisions--any decisions. Why isn't life easier?". In the end, my "First Meetings" with sub's tend to speak to them on every level--intellectually, spiritually, sexually, sensuously...but not on the real reluctant level. Hence, my review is only somewhat enjoyable. (5/10)
