As with so many of your stories, the cruelty and ingenuity of your torturer delights me. Please continue to extract every morsel of information and pain from your squirming captive. Susan. (9/10)

Very nice work, Cortez. I liked the character development of each person involved ... whether it was the torturer or the victim being tortured. Your writing style also keeps the tension ramped way up ... great job! More chapters please! (10/10)

This story goes to 11, but BDSM Library only lets me give it a 10. An absolutely terrific effort! (10/10)

Encore! encore!, more!, more!
Another terrific read. I especially enjoy the delicate precision Colonel Lui displays in practicing his craft.
Keep up the great work. (9/10)

My thanks for taking the trouble to respond - I'm always pleased to think that I have 'touched a nerve' with readers.

Impressive. A delicate symphony of pain, rather than the usual grand guignol, and the more effective for it.
One thing: "Lui" doesn't sound especially Chinese. I could be wrong of course, but the name sounds wrong.
Will you be continuing this? The "possibilities of two girls" whet's my appetite... (9/10)

If 'Lui' isn't Chinese then I apologise. Since there are two episodes of the colonel's sadistic work to go I trust you will forgive the slight difficulty with names and enjoy the stories anyway. Don't think I can sensibly re-name him in mid-flow as it were.

I second Lex's comments. What Cortez does - describe torture sessions - he does better than anybody. But sometimes the sessions become almost clinical because the characterization and motivation are thin. In fairness, I think it is very difficult to imbue 'torture room' short stories with those qualities. Cortez' villains are always masters or mistresses of their craft but, being professional torturers, they rarely have any personal animus toward their victims. The villains are always technicians, artists even, but they seem to do their work with a quiet professionalism, rather than the kind of elan that would really make them come alive (for me). This particular story is further weakened, IMO, by the fact that we don't get the kind of detailed physical description of the victim that can so enhance a story. "Only in her early twenties the woman was young and fit with a beautiful figure" we are told, and that is fine as far as it goes, but what about her hair, her eyes, her height, her complexion? I'm not sure that we even know, at first, that she is Asian, much less Chinese. That said, I want to stress again that Cortez has few, if any rivals in describing the 'action' per se. He is as accomplished a wordsmith as any writer in this genre. (8/10)

Dear boccaccio
Firstly my thanks for taking the time to respond and for the helpful and constructive criticism.
I plead guilty! One of the reasons is that I've always thought of these small pieces as glimpses of scenes or events rather than fully clothed stories. Part of the problem for me is how much more development is sensible or useful for the reader. Perhaps I do rely at times too much on hints and tiny clues to create the elements of a believable background. What I do always try and do is give a context and a believable scenario as to why the victim finds herself in such dire trouble...and most of those scenarios stem originally from hints and glimpses in the media of the repression and torture routinely used by a number of different regimes around the world. In one respect I find it more chilling to think that these men and woman actually take a delight and detached professionalism in such an obscene trade.

I don't think there are many writers who can produce the kind of detailed torture sessions that this author routinely provides. The attention to detail and the writing style are other elements of his craft that elevate his work into the upper ranks of this genre. The only imperfections that keep me from rating it even higher are the lack of plot and character development. (8/10)

Dear Lex
As with the comments added by boccaccio...I plead guilty to keeping deliberatly to a tight, minimal episodic snapshot approach. I have though about either writing longer stories or actually developing the adventure over a number of episodes. Perhaps do the former then post in the latter format. I admit my main concern has been not wanting to bore the reader with an extended background and character development.
Thanks for taking the time an courtesy to respond in such a constructive way...it's helpful to hear what other quality, professional writers think.
