German youths sent to Poland in the winter of 1939 are tempted by the opportunities for sadistic behaviour. WARNING - if you may be offended by a story involving the SS and Nazi persecution please don't read rather than complain afterwards (I did consider setting this story in a fictional time and place but rather wanted to explore ideas about SS behaviour in the earlier part of the war before the 'Final Solution' was decided upon and its even more evil excesses |

This was not one of Tavy's better stories. Too bad. ... I've been a fan of Tavy's for a long time, even though I admit that the balance between horror and erotica is a tough one for this author. As a writer, he does a pretty good job, but occasionally he gets a little focused on the blood and gore and not enough on the sex. ... In "Lebensraum", Tavy once again offers a smorgasbord of blood. However, unlike many of his other pieces, this one seemed contrived, as if he was struggling to find a way to get the blood and guts he wanted. The sex almost seemed an afterthought, though I liked the foreshadowing involving the two Hitler Youth boys. You'd think the SS would be out raping and pillaging to their hearts content. They were supposed to be soulless bastards, right? I'm surprised they didn't allow the Hitler Youth to rape whichever Polish girls they wanted. ... In any event, I agree with Major Littmann, that Tavy's produced much better before. I think this story had a great original concept, but needed some more time to percolate in the author's head. ... Yours Faithfully, Michael Alexander (www.michaelalexanderstories.com) (7/10)

Well done for tackling a difficult subject, but really it reads like a fake history text book and the sex seems lifeless and the fights gory and un erotic. Full marks for subject but 5/10 for content my friend, come on, you can do better. (7/10)

- Thank you very much for your review. When I read through this story after finishing it I came to a similar conclusion and decided to expand the fight scene and the rape, I got as far as featuring a prolonged fight between the two girls but then decided it didn't fit in with the cold bleakness of my original idea. Though I have quite happily written medieval stories where the heroine (?) has continued to live in agony through tortures, starvation and mutilation I felt that in this case I had to accept that a bayonet through a young girl's belly would be a mortal wound in itself.
